theater districts / theatre districts Explanation: A largo plazo esta iniciativa impulsará un corredor teatral, pues tan sólo en la delegación Cuauhtémoc se ubican 56 recintos, cifra que representa el 45 por ciento de todos los que existen en el Distrito Federal. http://www.excelsior.com.mx/funcion/2014/04/13/953826 New York City's Theater District (sometimes spelled Theatre District, and officially zoned as the "Theater Subdistrict"[2]) is an area in Midtown Manhattan where most Broadway theaters are located, as well as many other theaters, movie theaters, restaurants, hotels, and other places of entertainment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theater_District,_Manhattan -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2017-05-06 22:25:04 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I have no experience with its use in Argentina, but in Mexico, at least, corredor in this sense has the meaning of a district, quarter, or zone, e.g., corredores turísticos. This is evidenced in my "Excelsior" link, which actually shows a map of several theatres concentrated in this one area or quarter of Mexico City which they are trying to promote as a theatre district like those in other major cities, such as the West End or Broadway. Here though, I think Patinba's suggestion of "circuits" makes more sense in the context of "corredores teatrales" in Argentina, which seems to be tied to regional associations of theatres. |

touring theatre seasons Explanation: A variant, in effect, on options already posted, but I think this is what they're referring to here. There are quite a few references to "corredores teatrales" in Argentina, and idea clearly involves a number of theatrical venues, usually in a particular region, which points to Pat's suggestion of a theatre circuit (as we would call it in the UK, at least). But it is not just a theatre circuit, which means a set of theatres interconnected in some way; it also involves the concept of particular dates, a period of weeks or even months. So it is an event, like a festival but not the same. A festival is shorter and usually takes place in one or at most two or three places, with simultaneous programmes of events. A corredor is what we would call a season. So it's a season of performances by one or more companies in a series of theatrical venues that are connected in some way: a touring theatre season. Note the following casting ad in English for people to take part in a "touring theatre season". I think they're referring to a corredor, though in this case it covers the whole length of Latin America: "ARGENTINA: actors for touring theatre season International Theater Company based in Buenos Aires seeks 2 native English speaking female and 2 male actors to join our cast for the 2015 Theater Season. This is a traveling theater company, we tour from the north of Mexico to the Patagonia." https://encast.eu/argentina-actors-for-touring-theatre-seaso... |
