Pneumatic system
Description of pneumatic components:
"Les échappements sont :
Collectés éventuellement, et orientés de sorte que l'air détendu ne soit dirigé ni vers un opérateur ni sur les éventuels organes électriques placés au voisinage."
Can anyone help with the meaning of "collecté" here? Is it as straightforward as "collected", or not? I know there are glossary entries for "collecteur", but I'm not sure whether any apply here.
Thanks

collected
The emissions are collected finally........
Note from asker:
"éventuellement" is not "finally" (and I agree that the idea is that of 'gathered together', but am still looking for an idiomatic way to express it in English. See also my post re. "air détendu".). |

: I don't think this is actually talking about 'collecting the air', but rather, 'gathering together the exhaust pipes' (except that isn't exactly what they are!)

channeled
this should convey the meaning of collecté - contenu dans une canalisation

: They are already going to be in pipes — but this misses out the important notion of 'together'

led off
Hello
An alternative to "channelled off". Like Tony M, I don't go with "collected" and I'd say the same for "captured". It's a question of "directing" emissions, not amassing them together.

recovered
Actually, I don't have a problem with "collected" either, but the meaning is clear enough. Some might argue that "recover" or "recuperate" imply that there may be something useful you want to do with the exhaust afterwards, but I think that's just splitting hairs. For example, SO2 has been "recovered" from coal-fired power stations for some time by reacting it with chalk, and CO2 "recovery" is being talked about as a means of sequestering this particular greenhouse gas.
Discussion
I think you're right, it is indeed the idea of being fed into a 'collecteur' — a kind of manifold (cf. car exhaust); the suggestion is probably that it is alright to connect them all together as they are now at low pressure and so won't interact; really not sure of the appropriate terminology here — I don't think one can say 'manifolded'! But 'grouped' isn't really right either, since that could just suggest a bundle of individual pipes fixed together in one place.
You might have to paraphrase with something like '... connected to a manifold' etc. — try looking at those glossary entries for 'collecteur', might give you some inspiration (or in this case, expiration!)
