Hola, Neil; en el caso que planteas, la traducción de ASAP parece ofrecer pocas dudas, en tanto que resultado descriptivo de una biopsia asociada a una PSA elevada.

En el caso del Asker, y sin otro contexto que una radiculopatía (¿lumbar?) por afectación discal, el acrónimo descontextualizado ASAP podría significar muchas cosas diferentes, desde "paciente de otra manera asintomático y sin antecedentes" a "paciente incluido en el estudio ASAP" o "paciente con afectación prostática no bien definida" -o incluso paciente con "Acute Syndrome of Apoptotic Pan-epidermolysis".

En ningún caso ASAP parece relacionado con una radiculopatía o con una ablación, que son el único contexto aportado por el Asker. Y con esa info sólo se puede jugar a adivinar. En Respuesta planteo algunas de las opciones que me parecen podrían ser razonables referidas como antecedentes del paciente pero ninguna de ellas es una respuesta de hecho, ya que no hay forma de saber con la info dada a qué podría referirse ASAP -incluida la opción de lorena/Anne "antecedentes según AP" u otras más imaginativas aún (paciente "a seguimiento en atención primaria" / "afectado por síndrome antifosfolípido" / etc. etc.).

The patient has previously had "atypical small acinar proliferation".

I'm not sure why Chema and Douglas offered the same answer about "asymptomatic patient....." when their refs both included a more likely option.

I have a text that says the following in the patient's history:

"Elevated PSA. Biopsy 2017: ASAP."

Which to me suggests that the Spanish author has used the English acronym for "atypical small acinar proliferation" is it fits in nicely with elevated PSA and the biopsy.

I think your second possibility makes a lot of sense, I wonder if this patient was referred to therapy and ASAP under historia clinica is something like antecedentes segun atencion primaria or something to that effect...

I can conceive of two possibilities: ASAP as the English acronym "as soon as possible" indicating this is an urgent case (English abbreviations/acronyms seem to pop up occasionally in Spanish and Italian reports), or else, ASAP as an abbreviation for "we are all familiar with this patient's history which hasn't changed as compared to previous medical records, and I don't want to repeat it here". Maybe you can find some Spanish words a-s-a-p adding up to this meaning ;-)

I was thinking of that too, but that's the only history given. The rest of the report is about the patient's slipped disc and future treatment.

I'm wondering if it's a typo

I am sure that is the term you were also thinking of, and that is not really related to back pain in itself, but from my understanding, this term appears in the patient's medical records? Is it just that, i.e., having had this diagnosis in the past? Given how it can be malignant or benign, perhaps it did not merit further treatment if there are no further details....
