Hi all,

I am having trouble translating an entire sentence from a Mexican website's Privacy Policy. I don't understand the source sentence at all, other than the final phrase. I will provide my translation, of course, but it's definitely not right.

Source:
"Se tendrá tácitamente por notificado al Titular de la Información y se entenderá que el mismo acepta las modificaciones al presente Aviso de Privacidad, dentro de los tres días hábiles siguientes a la fecha en que se ponga a disposición del público la adecuación respectiva..."

My translation:
"You will be tacitly notified of the information that you yourself accept the modifications to the Privacy Policy, within the three legal days following the date on which is put the disposition of the public the respective suitability..."

The extract is from a Mexican website and I am translating for an English as a Lingua Franca audience worldwide. The translation does not have to have any legal standing.

Here's my understanding of the passage:

“Se tendrá tácitamente por notificado al Titular de la Información y se entenderá que el mismo acepta las modificaciones al presente Aviso de Privacidad, dentro de los tres días hábiles siguientes a la fecha en que se ponga a disposición del público la adecuación respectiva...”

“Any modifications to this Privacy Notice shall be deemed tacitly notified to the Data Subject within three business days following the date on which the respective modifications are made available to the public, and it shall be understood that he/she accepts the same/them…”

I would use "he/she" (or indeed "she/he") here since "Titular de la Información" is singular.

  -> I know, GDPR has certainly stirred up a lot in the world of online privacy in general — the lingo being no exception! "Data subject" sounded weird to me at first too, but I'm totally used to it already. Cheers, Taña, and hope all is well, abrazos :)

agree  Robert Carter: I generally use the singular gender-neutral "they" nowadays, which you also get used to quite quickly.

  -> Yeah use it all the time too, especially in relation to "data". When I looked at this the other day, "he/she" seemed to flow best, but "they" also seems great now too. Cheers, Robert :)
