Thank you both so far. Does anyone have any ideas for "Rauschen"? This word is often used in my document for the noise caused by quickly moving air/gases, including wind. This is one of those instances where I am finding it hard to believe there is no English word for it, but I can't think of one.

Muzzle noise/ exhaust noise

I think as it is exhaust system, Mündungsrauschen should be translated as 'exhaust noise' unless it is broken muffler noise.
In case of firearms it would translate to 'muzzle noise'

muffler noise

I think "muffler noise" or perhaps "exhaust duct noise" can be used in this context.
