Hi Jim, I actually did not suggest that at all - all I was saying is that based on her specifically worded question, you (correctly) assume this is a closure of an account, and based on her background information, I (also correctly) assume this involves payment of a death benefit. This is why I asked her to shed some light and maybe rephrase the question (she does say this has already been translated and exists in the glossaries, but that those translations were not helpful). Anyway, of course I agree with you that taken as is, without the background information, this cannot mean anything other than closure of an account. My answer is based on her background information, not the actual words in her specific question. That said, I really do think askers could be more responsive sometimes -

I do NOT consider that a life insurance policy necessary involves the actual closing of an account. All I say is that "estinzione conto corrente" is very difficult to translate in any other way than closure of a current account. When a payout is made on a life insurance policy obviously the account of the dead person must be closed sooner or later, but that normally has nothing to do with the insurance company or the payout which normally goes into the account of the beneficiary who is not the dead person and will probably not want to close the account.

Hi Alex, I wonder if you could shed some light on this issue by adding some context (like the entire sentence), as we are otherwise just guessing as Jim has very correctly said. I have assumed that this is a life insurance policy payout and Jim considers that this involves the actual closing of an account. Either one could apply, but it's impossible to tell unless you provide a bit more info. It would be appreciated.

I do agree that some more context could have been given, but even so, the asker does state that the current account belongs to the beneficiary, and the payment is of a debt benefit, so on that basis, I really don't see how there could be another interpretation. I imagine that's why she chose this answer as the most helpful.

You have let us see just five words. "giroconto" is account to account transfer. Estinzione conto corrente is closure of a current account. Estinzione di un debito (due to the beneficiary by an insurance company) is extinguishment of a debt. While their just might be something there which we can't see, which turns everything back to front and upside down, then a conto corrente is not an obbligazione.

Exactly - if as you say, the current account belongs to the beneficiary and this is a life insurance policy, then it stands to reason that the insurance company would pay the death benefit to the beneficiary and this would fufill the ins. co.'s obligation , which is what I believe "estinzione" refers to in this particular case. I.e. fulfillment of the ins. co.'s obligation - not closure of the beneficiary's account. This is why my answer below refers to "full payment"

Are you quite sure that the "conto corrente xxxxxxxxx" is the account of the beneficiary of the insurance policy? If this is the case, it is unlikely that this account is being closed.
