Na visão de Peirce, a palavra símbolo, etimologicamente, deveria significar
algo que corre em paralelo, assim como embolum é uma coisa que corre por dentro de outra, ferrolho ou (parabolum) é algo que corre ao lado de outra, uma garantia colateral, e hypobolum é algo que corre por baixo, uma doação antenupcial.

Há qualquer coisa que não entendo nas definições em inglês, como pode ser "above her dowry" se "hypo" significa "abaixo", "inferior"...?

Desculpe, Felipe. A minha intervenção é mais com a definição geral do inglês e não tem a ver com a sua sugestão.
Não quero estar a violar nenhum princípio, nem a maltratar ninguém!
Mário, eu não investiguei a fundo, para dizer a verdade, pois estou com um texto jurídico também, mas faz sentido o que refere... Obrigada!
