crowd pleaser

si puedes decir an idol of the masses...pero suena más para un texto sobre figuras autoritárias....ves? [quiero decir, mi ideia está clara?]

si no, un verbo: he or she is a real idol...sin masas, imo

or he/she is idolized by fans....

star

Según dices, se trata de una estrella de la música. No creo que "idol of masses" suena bien para nada. También podría ser "Idol", como en "Pop idol".
No dices que tipo de música es, pero yo pondría el género de música con star:
Pop star
Opera star
Rock star
Country music star
Flamenco star
Tango star......
Peer comment(s):

agree María Teresa Taylor Oliver : Exacto. Yo iba a decir "pop/rock/etc. star".

popular hero

This expression is one of the earliest denotations for stars or idols and is still largely in use within media sociology. To my knowledge it first appeared in Orin E. Klapp´s article "The Creation of Popular Heros" (The American Journal of Sociology. Nr. 54 / 1948).
(Partial) synomnyms: celebrity, idol, (expressive) opinion leader, icon

crowd idol, hero...

I believe Crowd Idol interpretes the sense in a much better way. In a second term it could be "hero" but the question is up-right when asking for an idol. Good luck.

super-star

"Idolo de masas" suggests to me someone who is more than just a star - someone with a much stronger appeal to and range of admireres.
Peer comment(s):

agree George Rabel : I agree. Maybe plain ole "star" does not quite describe it. Let's supersize it
