Portuguese term
os fautores
Portuguese to English
Art/Literary
History
"Participam no processo histórico e são dele parte integrante - personagens cujos actos, muitas vezes, as transcendem. São, por isso mesmo, de uma sociedade em crescimento orgânico"
Part of a text on historiography, the 'fautores' here are historical figures (or actors, as the author refers to them here) such as kings, warriors, saints etc. The tone of the article is academic. I have found the term 'fautor' used in English in some contexts but am not familiar with the term and would like opinions on whether it is an equivalent translation (in terms not only of meaning but also of register/intelligibility) or does anyone have a better term?
Thanks in advance

Comment: "Both yours and Henrique's answer were most helpful to me here: I appreciate all the other definitions of fautor but don't really think they fit here. And thanks for your kind comment, Muriel!"

If you think that actors is not convenient, maybe you could use \'historic makers\'...no?
