Is there a way to find out whether this is a case of "simple syndactyly" or "complex syndactyly"? That will tell you whether to include "fusion" or simply "webbing."

Wikipedia again:

"Syndactyly can be simple or complex.

In simple syndactyly, adjacent fingers or toes are joined by soft tissue.
In complex syndactyly, the bones of adjacent digits are fused. The kangaroo exhibits complex syndactyly."


HOWEVER: I also found a very scholarly reference that can back up Stuart and Aida's translation (from https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5732663/):
"Syndactyly (ie, digit fusion, typically via webbing) is a common inherited and clinically heterogeneous malformation.1"

That sentence suggests that you can say digits are "fused" in either case - whether they are fused at the bone or just connected with a membrane of skin. But now that I think about it, I think Stuart and Aida's translation is clear enough that they are fused via the membrane (which is all the information given in the source, that we know of).

Hi, I couldn't find anything with "membrane" so think they may be talking about "webbed".
