disempowerment

English Social Sciences Psychology prejudices and stereotypes
I am translating a book named "The Rich in Public Opinion" and currently at the part of presenting definitions of prejudices and stereotypes. I am having difficulties understanding the word "disempowerment" in the following paragraph:

The philosopher Hans-Georg Gadamer describes prejudice, in contrast to many defnitions that have been presented so far, as a value-free precursor
to an opinion that exists at the birth of knowledge. He insists that prejudice, in its original and legal meaning prae judicum, does not presume a positive or a negative judgment. “This fundamental prejudice of the enlightened man is the prejudice against prejudices in general and thus the disempowerment of tradition. Only through enlightenment does the concept of prejudice take on the negative connotation we are accustomed to.”

How should it be understood?
Thank you all in advance!

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

loss of power

This fundamental prejudice of the enlightened man is the prejudice against prejudices in general and thus the disempowerment of tradition

=> this kind of approach / attitude (i.e. "a fundamental prejudice of the enlightened man is the prejudice against prejudices in general") leads to "tradition" losing its power over people's ways of thinking.

When people blindly / obediently follow "tradition", the "influence of tradition" sounds too mild, it's more like "the grip over people's mind", or "power over people's mind".

Lost of influence

According to the definition of "disempower" by Collins Dictionary, I think this the meaning in the context quoted.
