English translation: Deckchair reinforcement spacer

German term or phrase: Unterstützungskorb
I'm translating a product catalogue for "Unterstützungskorb" and I need to know the exact terminology for this in English. I have a couple of translations: one is 'reinforcement cages' and the other is '[reinforcement] chair'. 'Chair' comes from: https://dbv.ext-tech-team.de/uploads/MB_Unterstuetzungen_efb...

The same file also contains 'Bewehrung', which I've translated as 'reinforcement'; sometimes, however, all of these words appear in the same sentence. If possible, I'd like to avoid repeating words right next to each other, but I'd also like some consistency.

How should I translate these different term?

An interesting question, since I think it is a rare beast, in the English/French construction world at least.

As per the definition below, if it applies to your Unterstützungskorb, it is a reinforcement spacer rather than a chair (aka deck chair, highchair, stool).

"Der Unterstützungskorb UK ist ein universell anwendbarer Bewehrungsabstandhalter in Form eines dreidimensionalen Gitterkorbs. Damit erhält der Unterstützungskorb UK seine kippsichere Standfestigkeit und gleichzeitig auch eine günstige Aufstandsfläche für die angrenzenden Bewehrungslagen. Als Abstandhalter zwischen oberer und unterer Bewehrung von Platten sowie zwischen äußerer und innerer Bewehrung von Wänden besteht der Vorteil, dass keine Berührungspunkte mit der Schalung auftreten und somit störende Rostflecken im Sichtbeton vermieden werden."

Note that some sites refer to an Unterstützungskorb as an Abstandshalter (as in the text above):

As such, it's a 3D (lattice girder type) version of what is otherwise called Distanzstreifen - https://www.avi.at/produkte/distanzstreifen-hqds/.
You have both 'Unterstützungskörbe' and 'Distanzstreifen' ('Snake spacer' is one label for it in English) in your photo.

A chair is used to support the reinforcement of a floor slab (not walls or even raised floors, since the bottom of the chair would be visible at the surface). Manufacturers claim their own products are superior because they will not puncture dampproof membranes, i.e. an indication that chairs sit on the ground. However, given the similarities in shape and function, the term 'chair' is often also used for what is more correctly called a 'spacer'.

Spacers "are used between the lower and upper reinforcement in the floor, ceiling and wall. They ensure the spacing between the reinforcement layers." Cf. the German above.

AFAIAA, reinforcement spacers are generally discrete elements. Since it takes time to secure them to the reinforcement, it certainly makes sense to use a product such as the German Unterstützungskorb, albeit at the expense of more steel, but I am not aware that it is anything like standard practice.

However, here https://www.preconproducts.co.uk/products/precon/reinforceme... you have a photo of what they call a deckchair, i.e. "A welded girder for spacing reinforcement mesh between two layers."

Another term is 'wire spacer' (as opposed to 'plastic spacer' and 'concrete spacers'), but that would include snake spacers too.
