English term or phrase: continuous domain
Hola! No consigo encontrar la traducción exacta para "continuous domain", el párrafo es la siguiente y es un texto sobre dermatología:
The intercellular lipid is required for a competent skin barrier and forms the only continuous domain. Directly under the stratum corneum is a stratified epidermis, which is composed primarily of 10–20 layers of keratinizing epithelial cells that are responsible for the synthesis of the stratum corneum.

¿Alguna sugerencia?

Muchas gracias

barrera/contención/capa/región ininterrumpida
Explanation:
It really is quite tricky to find the right word for "domain" here, so I've offered a few alternatives.
My preferred choice would be "barrera ininterrumpida", but "skin barrier" is already used in the same sentence.
As Abel says, "capa" is another good option.

I'd use "ininterrumpida" because I think "continuous" is used in the sense of "unbroken".

Muchas gracias! como dicen algunos compañeros, "capa", "barrera" ininterrumpida, me encaja más en este tipo de contexto.

Un dominio continuo significa que todos los valores de x incluidos en un intervalo pueden usarse en la función.

A continous domain can be imagined as a space in which the axes of the coordinate systems are the parameters of the continous domain. If we take 2D Cartesian space as an example, it is a continous domain where there is an infininite amount of possibilities of placing an object in this space. Let's call the position of the object its state. Constraining the space to e.g. a sheet of paper does not change its continuity. There is still an infinte amount of posibilites of placing a dot (or any object) on that sheet of paper or with other words the state space of the dot is still infietly large.

Asker: Exacto, el campo de este texto es médico (concretamente dermatología), me encaja más capa continua, uniforme... gracias !!

neutral  abe(L)solano: I think that here "continuous domain" refers to the biochemical (similar) nature of the intercelular lipids, not the position in space. I think a more natural way to express this is "capa continua/uniforme" in Spanish.

agree  Daniel Delgado: La traducción es correcta y exacta. Ver material que puse en References. También está en el Oxford Dictionary of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology - 2000. Obviamente, no tiene relación con funciones matemáticas.
