"...pero no es cualquier carácter el que tenemos que desarrollar..."

Spanish to English Other Religion Motivational speech
Hola.

Muchas gracias

Domini Lucas Feb 15, 2023:
character Christian character is based on a "1) combination of qualities in a person or place that makes them different from others" and also of "2) a particular quality" https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/characte... in this instance Christ-like qualities/y. A Christian has Christ living within through the Holy Spirit https://bit.ly/3HZqMUc and is being transformed to become more like Him https://www.biblehub.com/2_corinthians/3-18.htm Christ endured suffering https://bit.ly/3KaAVQQ, and His followers had need of the ability to endure/persevere when faced with suffering and adversity https://bit.ly/3IpIQZe. I'm guessing a tal punto que podemos sostenernos en la adversidad links to this kind of ability to endure when faced with adversity, but without fuller context, can't say conclusively.
Domini Lucas Feb 15, 2023:
re developing (an) identity There could be confusion in speaking of "developing identity" in this context. Christians speak of finding their "identity in Christ" based on verses such as https://bit.ly/40TQhPr. And also, this identity is based, as Adrian MM says, "on what Christ has done", i.e. His death on the Cross for the forgiveness of sins, reconciliation to God and granting of eternal life, etc. See for example https://www.gotquestions.org/identity-in-Christ.html

character

Christians are supposed to develop Christian character, as e.g. the Bible references quoted.

If you go to www.biblegateway.com and search character you will find more Biblical references.

I don't agree re spirit in the specific context. In an nutshell, the Spirit of Christ would be more likely to be referring to the Holy Spirit https://bit.ly/3E3Hot0 . The Holy Spirit indwells Christians and produces the fruit https://bit.ly/3Im7mdN which makes up/forms Christian character

sorry. It seems to have taken the note twice and out of order. If anyone knows how to delete duplicate please let me know!
Example sentence:

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Spanish term (edited): ..pero no es cualquier carácter el que tenemos que desarrollar

... but it is not any (shape or form of) identity we need to develop

... but that of Christ.

- as opposed to character (trait), personality (please read the weblink *carefully*), nature or S/spirit.
Example sentence:

It's tempting to build your identity on what you accomplish, but this is not a stable foundation. Your true identity is ultimately based on what God has done ...

We can discover our true identity the more closely we are drawn to God.
