revealed multiple failures on two of the coils...

Ya que "corte de las conexiones..." está precedido de la palabra "figura", creo que tiene más sentido pensar que se trata de un "corte transversal" (cross-section) mostrando el problema en cuestión. Si puedes ver la figura, te podrás dar cuenta si esto tiene sentido o no.

Por otra parte, en realidad "cutouts" ni "cutting" no tendrían mucho sentido en este caso.

De cualquier manera, esperemos que nuestros colegas opinen al respecto y que de todas maneras lo que te propongo te sea útil.

Además, debe ser "....failures of", no "failures on", como lo escribí en el ejemplo.
