French term

charge perturbatrice / flux perturbateur

French to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering in a patent
contexte

Discussion

Daryo Jun 30, 2023:
Patent errors like "par k convoyeurs appelés allées a; avec i € {1,...,k},"

where the index is missing after "a" don't help either. Should be:

"par k convoyeurs appelés allées a(index i); avec i € {1,...,k},"

the "index i" part would normally be an "i" printed in subscript, or if subscript is not available as "(i)".

Making a mess of indexes doesn't help comprehension of the text.

If this patent is already published why not give the reference to it?

@ Asker Without more context, it's a little difficult to understand exactly what is going on here.
I'm wondering if by 'perturbatrice' they simply mean occasional extra loads that come along to disrupt their regular flow of goods?
I would try to look at something like 'disrupting loads', and 'flows' is probably alright for 'flux' in this context.

disturbing load/flow

Existing EN version of this patent : https://patents.google.com/patent/FR3103296A1/en ... not that this proves anything.

This would be the predictable translation of "perturbateur/trice", and seems to fit pretty well: the image given is of "normal" flows, which are occasionally affected by other flows which affect these normal flows in some way...

agree Daryo : with what's available so far, seems right.

Thanks
neutral Thomas Miles : I would be interested to know why you think 'disturbing' is preferable to 'disruptive'. Following on from your mention of 'normal', the asker may also like to consider 'abnormal'.

Note from asker:
agree with Mr Tony, I don't thing the answer you provided fits in the context

disagree Tony M : Nothing to do with the logistics context given here!

non-uniform load / flow

Yours is a 'merge' system, i.e. with several conveyors feeding onto a main conveyor or 'highway'.

"Divert/merge devices are used for routing products by dividing or combining product flows. Usually there is a main conveyor, a “highway” (X45H), and separate subordinated conveyors, “satellites” (X45C). On the satellites, products can be subjected to various operations such as turning, grinding, assembly or testing, without disturbing the main flow. After the operations, the products return to the highway."

I've not found anything with 'disturbing flow' or similar. I have found 'non-uniform flow', however, though this might be a subset of flux perturbateur.

"The nonuniform flow of material entering the transport system is the reason for the non-uniform distribution of material along the transport route. It results in the accumulation of material in some places of the transport route on the conveyor belt, but other places on the conveyor belt remain unfilled to the required level."
https://actamont.tuke.sk/pdf/2022/n1/16pihnastyi.pdf

"The dependence of the non-uniform flow of material and the magnitude of tensions in the belt is estimated. An expression is written for the speed of propagation of disturbances along a moving conveyor belt with the material."
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3751631

Non-uniformity of flow can be materials of different densities or volumes arriving on the main belt, materials deposited on the main belt at a different speed, etc. all of which induce disturbance to the operation of the main belt.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Mpoma : "Non-uniform" seems to me to be a superset of "disturbing". It's true that there doesn't seem much evidence of use of the term "disturbing flow/charge". But "disruptive"/"disrupting" probably implies more upset than what we have here.

disagree Daryo : the ST is vague, but it's still pretty sure that these "charge perturbatrice / flux perturbateur" are streams / flows in their own right, not variations of some other flows.
