Rückrechnung

English translation: reversal / re-identification

German term or phrase: Rückrechnung
Sorry, but I have very little context:

Wie kann die Pseudonymisierung bei Bedarf rückgängig gemacht werden (Mehrfachantworten möglich)?
☐ gemäß einem definierten Verfahren
☐ im Mehr-Augen-Prinzip
☐ Direktzugriff auf nicht pseudonymisierte Rohdaten
☐ Auf Weisung des Vorgesetzten
☒ Sonstiges: eine Rückrechnung ist nicht möglich

I can't judge whether any of the translations for Rückrechnung already in the glossary fit.

Thank you!

Explanation:
See, for instance,

https://dataprivacymanager.net/pseudonymization-according-to...
"Pseudonymization is a method that allows you to switch the original data set (for example, e-mail or a name) with an alias or pseudonym. It is a reversible process that de-identifies data but allows the re-identification later on if necessary."

https://www.integrate.io/blog/why-pii-pseudonymization-is-cr...
"Pseudonymization allows organizations to reverse the process to get back to the original PII, if needed, through a reference pseudonym table. This feature differentiates it from data anonymization, which makes reversal impossible." (PII = personally identifiable information)

I wouldn't use "calculation" in this particular context.

Thank you again, Steffen. My prior research suggested something like reversal, but I was just not sure. I think I'll go for overkill and write something like "reversal to enable re-identification"

Asker: Thank you for the suggestion! But I'm always wary about reverso/Linguee/DeepL. Sometimes the translations are just plain wrong, and I can't judge that here. I went for a safe solution.

reverse projection

Explanation:
return (back) account; re-account, Zahn.

The only thing I'm sure of is that, in a non-financial and non-insurance context, reverse run rate can be discarded and disregarded.

Example sentence(s):
  • IATE: de Rückrechnung COM en backward projection COM reverse projection accounting COM de Rückrechnung COM en roll back
  • The run rate refers to the financial performance of a company based on using current financial information as a predictor of future performance.

agree  Björn Vrooman: It pays to read the question. Not sure, though, whether to agree with the second ref.; it's good to distinguish here, but the terms might be used interchangeably regardless. The alternative rendering is "re-identify," as you've already noted.

  -> True, "re-identify/re-identification" would be clearer because "reversal" is also often used in the context of unauthorised reversal by intruders acting with malicious intent, whereas reversal seems to be a desirable option in the context of this question

backtracking

Explanation:
Not my field, but "backtracking" just struck me as the most likely general term. A search on "backtracking" and "pseudonymised data" / "pseudonymisation" finds some plausible sounding hits - see examples below.

Example sentence(s):
  • "Additionally, selective disclosure at the receiving Member State level would guarantee that in a case of dispute, i.e. in cases of fraud or a law enforcement investigation, the receiving Member State would be able to backtrack the pseudonymisation to ide
  • "This implies that the use of two-way cryptography algorithms (rendering personal data unintelligible with the possibility of backtracking the individual under predefined circumstances, for example, by entering the correct key/password) is still subject t

Asker: Thank you, but I went for the safer one, but this may be very good. I just can't judge given the lack of much context in my text.
