Danish term

betyrelsesarbejde

Danish to English Other Other questionnaire about jobs and spare time
Question: Er du aktiv i din fritid (sportsforening, *betyrelsesarbejde* eller andet frivilligt arbejde)?
Other questions include level of education, languages, family, etc. If it's a typo, board work doesn't fit in here.
Advice appreciated asap.

Discussion

Helen Johnson (asker) May 22, 2007:
I've asked my client to check it, because with the very short questionnaire I have, with no background info as to whom it's aimed at, it seems a strange thing to include in the light of some of the other questions (e.g. are you going to do national service - or can you do national service at an older age in Denmark?) Otherwise, I imagine it can't be anything other than board duties.
Jørgen Madsen May 22, 2007:
It must be a typo and should be "bestyrelsesarbejde".

agree Charlotte Corty : Bedre - jeg er også sikker på at det er frivilligt ulønnet bestyrelsesarbejde i foreninger, etc.

thank you
agree Pernille Chapman : Agree with Charlotte. As the context mentions voluntary work, this is the most likely meaning.

I don't think it is irrelevant in this connection. Board duties don't have to be in big companies - it might be at your local club of some kind, at a school, etc.
Peer comment(s):

agree Dana Sackett Lössl : Or board work. Absolutely right about smaller local associations, etc. It is very likely here.
