agree Charlie Bavington : or possibly "a business consisting solely of the collection of royalties" - sounds a bit more "English" to me, altho I agree entirely with your interpretation of the meaning.....

agree df49f (X) : yes, reduced down to, restricted to, limited solely to collecting royalties

French term (edited): activit rduite

reduced activity regarding the collection of royalties

or...........hypothesized that there has been a slowdown in the collection of royalties
Peer comment(s):

neutral Michel A. : I think it's a mistranslation of "réduit à" which means limited / reduced TO

disagree Veronique Domaratsky-Dujardin : ok: activity reduced to collecting royalties.

and therefore limit the costs in terms of structure, wages....whatsoever..
because collecting royalties is a very low cost activity

neutral writeaway : you fell for a false friend-see that you noticed your error :-)

You're absolutely right, but the Q was about 'activité réduite' and I think I gave the right answer after 9 minutes :-)))
disagree Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) : perception is a huge faux ami...hypothesis evoked in not used in English like that

ok, it does not change the fact that my interpretation (later on backed by Connor's and the comments he got) is the right one and, sorry Jane, but you missed the meaning of the French sentence

bring up his/her assumption [to the x and y] that business activity was down.

it means reduced or lower business activity but it can't be translated like that in the context
This person voiced his/her assumption to the tax authority and royalty [payer? some entity, don't know] that the volume of business was low..

another way

OK AFTER YOUR correction ENZA:

VCe travail sur la cessation d\'activité a conduit XXX(person\'s name) a évoquer l\'hypothèse d\'une activité réduite à la perception e royautés....

to bring up the assumption that business activity HAD BEEN REDUCED TO processing royalty payments.

FINAL: .....X said that he ASSUMED that business activity had been reduced to processing royalty payment....

when X evoque l\'hypothese..it seems to me he is REFERRING to some other company....

it\'s not to evoke a hypothesis....

EXAMPLE: J\'ai evoque l\'hypothese que les enfants avaient x:

I BROUGHT UP THE IDEA THAT THE CHILDREN MIGHT HAVE...

NOT I evoked the assumption...see? :)

see?

FINAL: The winding down of the business led Mr. LALALA to bring up the idea that the business might have been reduced to royalty collection.
