French term

la lutte pour le respect de la justice

French to English Social Sciences International Org/Dev/Coop
This is the description of an aide organization's goal, from several in a list.

The entire phrase is:
Exprime sa solidarité avec les individualités ou associations engagées dans la lutte pour le respect de la justice et en faveur de la Paix.

The meaning of this phrase is clear but I'm having trouble getting it into an English phrase that flows nicely. The only thing coming to mind is 'engaged in the fight against crime' but I think 'justice' encompasses much more than just crime. I know also that la lutte can be synonymous with 'policy' but I'm not sure that fits this context exactly.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

committed to the enforcement of Justice and the promotion of Peace

"engagé" is ****committed to ***** (a policy, ideals, etc.) in NGO speak.

and "le respect" de la justice is indeed a concept: "enforcement".

Law enforcement : l'application or "le respect" des lois. "Faire respecter la justice": to enforce justice.

From an Hansard:
Another reason is that it is appropriate for the government to be involved in the enforcement of law, ******the enforcement of justice*****. I am noted for being even a conservatives' Conservative and am not always so pleased with some of the more redistributive elements, shall we say, of economic packages that tend to go out, that tend to be a large element of our political discourse. But the government has an appropriate force to use, and that is in the enforcement of the rule of law and ********the enforcement of justice********.

no "fight" nor "struggle" here: it's only an aid organization, not a militant group.

the fight for justice

The "respect of (justice)" is indissociable from justice itself and is therefore superfluous.

The concept of justice goes beyond that of "social" justice and should perhaps not become limited by such an adjective in translation

disagree Francis Marche : if I may voice my dissent: no "struggle" and no "fight" here if an aid organization. And I read no "fight" or "struggle" in the title of the pambazoka forum - these two English terms are just calques for "lutte" that miss the point altogether
