What sort of application ...I understand this as a reference to the way people doing this course will be able to apply the techniques that they learn to their own requirements in terms of searching for information on the internet (which is currently creating problems for them) ...phew!

IIMO it's likely the training is in fact of shorter duration, and the application to problems possibly more efficient ; the learner could then be said to "gain" on both counts. Clarification as to what sort of application is meant would help.

It's an awful sentence! I think I'd make it much shorter and sharper in English. They're trying to sell a course that's short and to the point!
