The specific context is as follows:
"La personne publique, si elle fait l'objet d'une assignation fondée sur un droit de propriété industrielle ou intellectuelle portant sur l'un des éléments des prestations, s'engage pour sa part à :- l'appeler en cause en qualité de garant et à souffrir qu'il soulève les moyens utiles à sa défense ;
I'm not sure whether or not "appeler en cause" is a set legal term, if not, do you think it would be acceptable to translate the second part of this sentence as follows:
"call it to the case in its capacity as guarantor and allow it to raise the necessary resources for its defense;"

It seems again to be a very bad transaltion from English tou French.
appeler en cause = mettre en demeure ?
"s'engager à souffrir qu'il..." is it French ?

My problem is with garant i.e. whether as a true guarantor or as an indemnifier in third-party proceedings.

I don't seem to be making much of a ProZ impact with this joinder idea.

: Looks right - the preceding context might disambiguate 'garant'

We'll have to go back to contract basics. Guarantee > guarantor guarantees debt to creditor. Indemnity> indemnifier indemnifies debtor if forced to pay up.
