animateur here sounds more like a 'master of ceremonies'. Could be wrong though. Good luck!

programme (program) director
Theatres sometimes have separate positions for those in charge of the actual programming vs those responsible for overall (financial, etc) direction. I see these called 'programme director" or "artistic director".

A client I've just started working for likes me to use 'coordinator' for 'animateur' - I offer it as an alternative and nothing more - at least it too is fairly vague :-)
