Art/Literary
Philosophy
"Quels sont les principaux chantiers de la pensée vivante ?"
The context is an introductory paragraph about contemporary philosophy. How about "What are the principal strands of living philosophy?" Or "contemporary thought"? And "strands" doesn't really capture the idea of where contemporary or living philosophy is being practised.

hotbeds of contemporary thought
I like Michelle's "evoloving avenues of contemporary [thought]", with "evolving" capturing something of the essence of a "chantier".
However, if you are looking more to capture the idea of "where contemporary or living philosophy is being practised", as you say, then you could ask, "Where are the hotbeds of contemporary thought?" This is a slightly different way of interpreting the question and I, for one, am not sure which is intended.
