French term

Compte-rendu bibliographique

French to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
While I have read and dealt with this term many times in French, I am not as certain of its rendering in English... I am thinking of using "annotated bibliography" (don't like "bibliographic report" or even "bibliographic commentary" much), but am open to suggestions...

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks Jessica and all others who contributed. Awarded 2 points as I had already come up with 'literature review' on my own (see comment above under "survey of the literature." Nevertheless, all of your contributions gave me some interesting alternatives for future use!"

bibliographic summary

Depending on the context, I would consider compte-rendu to be a summary.
Annoted would be used if there are notes with the references. If that is the case, then annoted would be ok.

survey of the literature

This is research done to find out about what has been written on a particular topic. Also known in French as "étude bibliographique" or "enquête bibliographique". Another alternative in English: literature survey (the term given in granddictionnaire.com) but it gets fewer hits on Google.
Note from asker:
Perhaps "literature review"or, in a sentence, "review of the literature" might work as well?
Peer comment(s):

agree John Peterson : Often the obligatory Ch 1 of a thesis/dissertation serving as a critical overview, but could be a free-standing study as well.
