I'm tempted to translate 'aiguilles' by 'points', but I'm not really sure, so I'm posting it here to see what you think.

There are "aiguilles" and then there are "aiguilles". No indication here to any specific type of "aiguilles". Which explains my general "pins". Lots of hits in the context of metalworking, with pin+metal+solder+vessel+plate
