Italian term

Mandamento: Unico

Italian to English Other Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Civil Status Certificate
I am translating a birth certificate issued by the Municipality of Messina from IT-EN and I encountered this entry: Mandamento: Unico. Can someone tell me what would be the best translation for this entry? I believe that 'Mandamento' stands for a form of 'pretore' or 'magistrate' which could be translated as 'District' or 'Area', and that the entry 'Unico' is making reference to the fact that the area/district falls under the legislation of a single magistrature. But I would appreciate if you can help me identify the proper way of translating these two terms. Thanks

Thanks for your feedback. I agree with you, for someone not familiar with the context 'District: Single' is somewhat confusing.

You could put "District: Single" But it would be a bit of a copout, because we don't know what this means.

It doesn't get many hits, though there's another example here:

And you probably found the discussion on wordreference.com, but I don't feel it adds anything useful.

This may help

These two references may cast some light:
1. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circoscrizione_giudiziaria describes how a "mandamento" fits within the administrative organization of the Italian judicial system.
2. http://dati.san.beniculturali.it/SAN/produttore_SIAS_san.cat... shows how the "pretura" of Como I came to be consolidated into a "mandamento unico".
It would seem that "District (or equivalent): single" would be a valid rendition
Note from asker:
Thank you for the references. They were very helpful and building an understanding of the context. Much appreciated.
