What does '登録' mean in terms of a lawyer?
Does this mean to 'pass the Bar exam' or simply 'register' somehow?

One who passed the exam may want to be a judge or a prosecutor.

agree mstkwasa : According to 弁護士法(8・9条) one has to register as such at the "Japan Federation of Bar Associations" (日弁連). Japan dose not have the barrister/solicitor divide as in some common law states. "Attorney(-at-law)" since this person can plead a case.
