Japanese to English Law/Patents Law (general) Traditional Koseki
This is part of an address in a traditional koseki document which is being translated for migration purposes. My question is how should I handle the イ参 part?

Oaza Fukaura 3025 banchi...(?)3

Oaza Fukaura 3025 banchi I 3

I think a simple 「い」(i) or with a capital (I) would do.
Peer comment(s):

neutral TCN6YR : For any old addresses, "イ" is possible. I am not sure if any typo might be seen on koseki documents.

agree Hidetoshi kudo : Not a typo. 3025 is a lot number. After a lot number we usually get a room number. イ-3 must be an old fashion apartment room number or government housing.

Oaza Fukaura 3025-3

Could it be a type for "ノ" instead of "イ" ?

Sorry, "typo" not "type".

Try googling "番地ノ(or の)参(一、弐、...)", and you get quite anumber of hits.

Hmmm....that's a good question! I suppose it's possible...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Joyce A : I'm not 100% sure, but Miho sure brings up a very good point.

I'm not 100% sure, either, but I thought it could be a possibility since katakana is not commonly used in addresses in Japan (though there seems to be a few cases where katakata is used).

Oaza Fukaura 3025-A3

This is just another suggestion. I also like the simplicity of Tokyo_Moscow's suggestion, and those references are very convincing. i-ro-ha usually ends up as ABC in legal documents, so maybe A3 conveys the sense well. I dropped the hyphen bcause there are probably hyphens before the Oaza, and it could get a little hyphen happy. I don't think anyone will mistake it for a sheet of paper.

Numbering

イ doesn't seem to be a misprint, and could be used as in a イ ロ ハ order.
Here is how they explain that, not in a housing context though.

Probably
Oaza Fukaura 1-3 will do.

After a little research, I am sure it is 1-3, in i-ro -ha order, where i should have meaning as 1. Even now some areas' names are used like that.
