The context is:
最終的に仕上がるのは前頭部を覆う膜状の造形物で窓やライトのために開口部が設けられたものになっている。RFPカバーそのものは車体の強度部材としては扱えないが、一体物として成立させるためにはしかるべき強度が必要である。

It is talking about the use of fiber-reinforced plastic is used to make molds and parts for train cars.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't understand what this is or how it is used.
