Discussion
suffix "xxxx+itol" is used to denote sugar alcohols.
(ex.: Xylitol /ˈzaɪlᵻtɒl/, another sugar alcohol used as a sweetener, derives from Greek: ξύλον, xyl[on], "wood" + suffix -itol). So here, malt(ose), (麦芽(糖))-- (a sugar of) wheat germs by the look of it -- +itol.
So suffix '-ose' is reserved for the natural substance (glucose, sucrose, fructose, you name it), while +'itol' is used as a generic for the corresponding processed product.
