disfigurement/ marring

"Disfigurement
According to its ordinary English meaning "disfigurement" means the marring of the figure or appearance of something, an external injury which detracts from personal appearance.
A disfigurement must have the effect of marring or detracting from the appearance of the individual as a person. Each injured person is different. Whether a particular injury mars the appearance of the injured person will depend almost entirely upon the circumstances of that person's life. "

"Item 39 refers to disfigurement and scarring. Disfigurement is not something which interferes with the health or comfort of the disfigured person, and if one’s appearance is affected so that it produces an embarrassing reaction of observers, this may be taken as evidence of the marring of one’s appearance regardless of the embarrassment one feels as a result of the reaction."

"Illness- Poor health resulting fromdisease of body or mind.
Injury - An injury is physical harm or damage to a person resulting in the marring of appearance, personal discomfort and / or bodily hurt or impairment."

Hvala!
agree Bogdan Petrovic : To bi bio i moj predlog, čini mi se da je teško naći izraz koji sve obuhvata, ni naša "naruženost" nije sveobuhvatan ako ćemo pravo

Hvala! Slazem se.U cilju "sveobuhvatnosti" bilo bi bolje:"disfigurement and impairment" Pr.:" to recover separate damages for "disfigurement and impairment." http://www.politicswest.com/21674/malpractice_victims_doctor...

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Hvala. Upotrebila sam marring za naruženost, mada je zaista teško postaviti strogu granicu."

it depends...

I'm not aware of one word in English that would convey all the degrees of meaning above, but...

For physical injuries I'd use one of the following depending on their severity : disfigurement, mutilation, disablement

and for physical injuries which are solely aesthetic I'd use "defacement".

Hope that helps!
