"Betyg" implies that the document is judgmental [reference; testimonial, or character (for servants), or school-leaving certificate; diploma (should that be applicable)], "intyg" implies that the document is not judgmental (examples: 1. "Mr. xx was employed by us from yy to zz". 2. "Mr. xx was unable to work between yy and zz due to illness."

"betyg" is usually connected with education, the kind of marks you get on an essay or on a particular school subject. "intyg" normally is a certificate that is provided by someone of authority who can certify your credentials.
