I suppose to avoid an argument as to whether one should write bilateral or bilaterally it might be best to write (bilat)as is often done in Swedish patient records.

Thanks. Once the abbreviation takes hold, the actual words, of course, will vary. My version comes from Jablonski's dict. of medical acronyms & abbreviations. Can also be written "nad".
