Swedish term

kassera reklamationer

Swedish to English Bus/Financial Retail
Hello

I'm reviewing a job and have

XXX förbehåller sig rätten att ***kassera reklamationer*** under 500 SEK per enhet utan leverantörens godkännande och bli krediterade för dessa.

The translator has used "...dispose complaints under..."

I'm not convinced by this but can't come up with anything else.

I assume that the Swedish means that the faulty goods do not have to be returned (mentioned earlier in contract) nor even be reported beforehand to get the supplier's reaction

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Paul Gratwick Dec 10, 2018:
I agree with Paul L. The fault with the translators text is that they used "complaints" for "reklamationer". As Agneta points out, this word means both the complaint itself and the item returned, and in this case, it must be the latter. Whether you choose "dispose" or "discard" is irrelevant, IMHO.

The accounting and business term is Scrap, both as a verb and noun. That is, as in "Products returned by distributors and subsequently scrapped." ( https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/772406/0001193125152... ). I think this would be best for this context also.

I would have used 'returned product,' which is used, but it seems 'returned items' is used more.

I assumed this was a retailer chucking away packs of mouldy bacon returned by shoppers rather than sending them back to the producer. But it could also be the retailer discarding faulty items itself.

@all Thanks all
I'm not sure about "dispose of returned goods" simply cos if they have been returned, you have not disposed of them (tautology)
"dispose of goods for return" is better but even that could be criticized as per the above

Discard returned items A retailer having had a defective item returned by a customer will often find it is not worth repairing the item for resale (which could not be sold as new anyway).
Agneta Pallinder Dec 10, 2018:
Chris is right Reklamation means both the complaint and the item complained about and returned.
Christopher Schröder Dec 10, 2018:
yeah, they're just disposing of returned goods
