You didn´t tell us, what kind of file, with which program are you working and so on.

Can you tell us some more details?

- Which file format (under which source application version)?
- Which Trados version (full version number)?
- Which operating system?

I'm working with Windows XP and Trados 7.

Which versions of MS word and Trados (full Trados version number please, including the 'build number' - go to Help - About... to find out)? This could be essential, as the first versions of T7.0 had a few problems.

In Word, are you working in Normal or Layout view?

Are there any hypelinks in the text? Feb 28, 2006

Huge Word files tend to be slow, but not that bad.
There must be something wrong with the file.
First, check if there are any hyperlinks within the file.
If yes, either use Bookmark Handler or better take TAG Editor.

If no: select the whole text without the last paragraph mark. If there are more than one empty paragraphs behind the text, leave them all unmarked. Copy the text and paste it into a completly new clean file. Save this file. Close Word, restart it, reop... See more

The text has no hyperlinks at all. I think the file in itself is messy, because I guess the client converted it from pdf to word.
Anyway, thanks a lot!

YES! PDF conversion can screw up translation with a CAT tool.

Sometimes it's just better to forget about translating with a CAT tool,

but sometimes it might be worth your while to save the corrupted source as a TXT, then copy back into a WORD doc and reformat manually (removing paragraph marks etc and making the text as similar as possible to the original source)

The final customer converted a PPT file into pdf, and then the pdf into Word... arrrrgggggggg....

Wouldn't it be easier to send the ppts directly for translations?

Problem is we MUST use Trados, because of the 160,000 total wordcount, only 30,000 words are new...

Sigh... back to work.

But of course - with T6.5x or higher, you could use TagEditor.

Problem is we MUST use Trados, because of the 160,000 total wordcount, only 30,000 words are new...

Two things to try:
- Save as RTF.
- Highlight everything except the last paragraph mark in the document, and paste into a new (empty) document.
