I just work - one project is followed by other one and so on and so forth. There is no such thing as "long project" that I worked on, which I completed, which is why I need to relax now. There may be one long project or a dozen of small ones which makes no difference for me. When I need a day (week/fortnight) off I just take it.

it depends:
1) if I finish during the working day, I start the next project but first I go out for about 1 hour
2) if I finish in the evening, I just sleep a bit longer the following day.

My projects are usually small - medium (from 3000 to 25000), but very close to each other as to the deadline, so my "relaxing time" is not a lot.
Basically when I finish all the translations of a month I take a day off, and do everything I can, which is:
sleep a bit longer,

Provided I don't have back-to back assignments: DIY
As a list-maniac, I have an ongoing list of what needs to be done. It never seems to get shorter.

Sleeping! Nov 26, 2010

My mother says that my first name is sleep and my second name is bed.
And she's right. I adore sleeping and after a long project I generally (try to) relax myself in this way, even if it is during the day.
But it is not always possible of course.

If it is extremely much for a long while, then HOLIDAY Nov 26, 2010

In September and October this year I basically just worked and slept, I worked from early morning until well into the night for two months without any weekends or days off at all. I barely had time to eat.

So in November, when I didn´t get a project I was expecting I just decided to have holiday for 2 1/2 weeks. It has been great and I have so much energy and feel so excited about working now!

The fact that I left mega cold and dark wintery Sweden for South East Asia

I don't really have much time between projects. I do find all sorts of ways to relax on a daily basis though. Some of my favorites are, not in any particular order:

Taking a walk with my wife, which usually involves food shopping, and I love visiting "bargain discount shops". They're full of so many gadgets and odd junk that I just disconnect and find it amusingly relaxing.

I know lots of people hate cooking, but I love it because it makes me forget about everything els

I know lots of people hate cooking, but I love it because it makes me forget about everything else. It also has the added health benefit that I know that my family and I are eating well. I'm a firm believer that spiritual or "soulish" love can be transmitted through food. Preparing and eating good, healthy food can have a calming and relaxing effect, especially if it's accompanied by a glass or two of good wine! I love Julia Child's quote, "I enjoy cooking with wine, sometimes I even put in the food I'm cooking."

Swimming a few extra laps is also a great reward and very relaxing.

sleeping! Nov 26, 2010

i'll sleep in the next day, but if i've been working a lot i'll catch up on things I've neglected...shopping, cleaning, errands. Cooking too! nothing like making a nice dinner for myself.

Same here! But my initial reaction after a long intensive project is just to sit staring into space, opening and shutting my mouth like a goldfish for a day (happened recently).

I enjoy spending more time with friends and family, especially over good home-cooked food. Like John, I believe that love can be "cooked in".

Otherwise, if I'm not catching up with the DIY list (this week I've mended a leaking pipe, fitted a tap and re-routed a phone extension), there are any number of creative projects waiting, and then there's the garden...

I get moving. Nov 26, 2010

I have to go for a long run or swim after an intense project during which I've been confined to my office.

Otherwise I'm not ready for the next one.
