I only use the automatic reply thing when I'm away from the office for some reason, or on holiday/vacation.
No need to! Most of my clients are Europe-based and so they are more or less on the same time zone as me. When I go to bed, so do they. In any case, as I’m not looking for new clients I don’t risk missing out on “great opportunities” from distant countries or continents. If I am going away for a few days, I usually contact my regular customers beforehand to let them know. When I am away during the day I use my phone to check mails, but only reply if it is urgent. I wonder... how we could write an automatic reply telling people **this** reason of our absence in particular. Bearing in mind that a good out-of-office email needs to include the exact dates of our time off, the reason that we are off, and the people (if applicable) who can help while we’re out, I believe this poll question doesn't make much sense... at least to me. I think the pool is poorly worded, or it assumes we just work and sleep. I do not believe anyone would set up an automatic reply that says "Going to bed now, nighty-night!", but it can be useful sometimes to let people you know you've closed the shop for the day depending on how you operate your business.

If it's a mass email, I am not that interested in their offer. If it's addressed only at me, they will certainly be aware of my time zone and assume I will respond during normal business hours.
My clients/agencies are in all kinds of timezones and they usually know what timezone I am in. I am normally available between 10am and 10pm in my time zone and in this time frame I reply quickly to any emails or messenger postings. Outside of that, I set my smartphone to flight mode, otherwise I would not get any sleep, but I don't configure any automatic reply. I reply normally to all incoming messages on the next day. Out of office | Aug 7, 2021 |
May I take this opportunity to point out the following for the benefit of what seems to be just about everyone these days: Out of office is what politicians are when they lose in the election. Out of THE office is when a translator is out of, er, the office. Thank you.

What's an automatic reply? The idea is obvious from the words, but how can I find it on my computer?
No auto reply | Aug 7, 2021 |
I have always notified my regular clients of absences, vacations, etc. I'm no longer interested in random inquiries. Decades ago when I was eager to acquire new clients, I tried using auto reply when I took a vacation. For months afterward I received a considerable amount of spam, since the auto reply function had precedence over the spam filter. Consequently the spammers knew they had a "live" email address. never used it | Aug 7, 2021 |
I never use it even when I go on holiday. My regular clients know when I am away and any other requests will be dealt with when I notice the mail. I can see the mails on my phone anyway, but not any attachments.
