I have 5 main clients (agencies and direct clients): about 60% of my work each month comes from 2 of my regular customers (agencies), the rest is from occasional clients and one-offs.

I have about 8 very regular clients and another 8 that offer me jobs on a more occasional basis (still several times a year, though).

How can you have 20, or even 10, “main clients”?

I'm really not sure how to define main. In terms of volume or earnings? Because there are two or three agencies I work with very regularly, but I have a direct client who gives me a
big job roughly every other month. Since I bill more to direct clients, I earn more with that client than the agencies.

I basically think of my direct clients as being Very Important, because they pay well and fast, and the agencies as the providers of bread and butter, giving fairly regular work but not paying as well. Although I know I can trust them when they give me their wordcount, and they aren't as high-maintenance as my direct clients.

I misunderstood the question and answered 10-15.
However, I only really have one main client -not an agency- that pays me promptly at the end of each month.
I have another direct client, a marketing agency, but the work I get from them to be more sporadic.
Apart from that, most of my other clients are universities or related institutions. I currently work on an occasional basis with at least 10 in Spain, and one in Italy.

I assume the main ones are connected directly to the main pipework whilst the others pass through an inspection chamber.

Sorry but I'm an architect and when I see the word "main" that's my instinctive reaction.

And I'm glad of it, for the time being, even though I was offered a high hourly rate to do editing for a European subtitling company a few months back. But I don't want to participate in any MTPE work, anyway, which is something I have mentioned before on these forums. I am taking advantage of the fact that I can enjoy the summer right now by getting plenty of exercise, and as much sunlight as possible, in an attempt to overcome all of the bad health effects that came about as a result of being almost entirely closed up in my house during the pandemic. I think that all of the time off right now will get me energized enough to perform well in my last course, which starts at the end of August, the successful completion of which will fulfill the requirements for my post-bac degree in Italian. In any event, I am hoping that foreign authors who are willing to agree to pay a fee, instead of nothing more than royalties, for the translations of their books, will begin to re-surface, in large enough numbers, sometime during next year.
