| Whose glossary is my glossary? | Aug 20, 2005 |
Testing the new features, I happen to run into my own glossary and it does not have my name, it just says "non-platinum member". However, I HAVE BEEN A PLATINUM SINCE APRIL 2005. Besides, it`s MY glossary, isn`t it?
And - furthermore- it used to be under my name before thes changes. I assume it must be some kind of bug. Can any site staff member help, please?

Thank you for the improvement with the Kudoz search function. However, I have a little bug to report here : I run a trial search of the term "intrant" from English into French. The answers that popped up from the KOG all had "intrant" as the target term in French instead of the source term (and "input" as the English source which I had not asked for)! The term search checks for your term in both the source and the translation. This is by design. It was thought that in the absence of an exact match for the source term being searched for, results containing the term in the translation might also be helpful.
In the example search you posted, no terms were found containing an English word "intrant". You still got some search results, though, because "intrant" was found in some French translations.
I hope this helps to clarify.

I've been using the Kudoz term search for a year and a half and I'd never noticed so far that a word not found in the source language was looked up for in the target language!!

I really appreciate the convenience of the new search facility, but find one limitation that was not present in the old format. If I want to search for an expression from French to English, say "mise a jour", and do not check "Match exact phrase", I'm given a very long list of answers and have to scroll down (or use Ctrl-F) to find the one I'm looking for. If I do select "Match exact phrase" I get 0 finds because, in this case, the only occurence of "mise a jour" is within... See more Hi Jason,

Check the option
Open search results in a new window
and you'll have the first window always ready to be used again.

I find that the field named "Field", i.e. where you enter the specific area of specialisation, is... too specific!
Many everyday words have different meanings according to the field. Let's say I want to check the use of that particular term in a medical or computer environment.
As we all will have realised, glossary entries are not always careful and even when they are, the criteria under which a term is entered can differ from those of the person searching. Further, a term used in 'cardiology' may also be used when speaking of 'medical instruments'...one used in 'systems and networks' might be used in 'hardware'. This doesn't mean to say I'll find them in 'medical - general' or 'computers - general' so...where do I start out?
Some terms will return 30, 40 or 50 hits if "all fields" are selected. However, there may only be 1 or 2 medical entries for that same term, so choosing the specific field can be a bit of a shot in the dark.
In this sense I found that the old broader fields took me to the desired term far more quickly...
Hope I'm not the only one to have experienced this. I'd like to see the old broad fields available again.

I think this is a good thing - I realize it's just starting out and I probably have yet to use the "Web Term Search", since I mostly use the "Proz.com Term Search", but I think this will turn out to be a good thing.

I thought I had tried this various ways, including accents...don't quite get it but it now works fine.
