Suite à une dernière rencontre ProZ.com, une personne avec qui j'ai discuté m'a contacté pour une demande de traduction (plus de 400 €). Ce n'est pas la raison pour laquelle j'y suis allée, mais une conséquence !
A week after one of last ProZ.com events I attended, I was contacted for a translation job by someone I talked with. The job was worth more than €400. I didn't attend to make money but it's just one of the many consequences of networking!

Looks like I missed the boat on this one, but I had a few reasons to share:
1) People. Professional reasons aside, I've found that I meet all kinds of people at conferences and events. Some will remain professional contacts only, but when you meet people who share your interests there's a great chance of really enjoying some conversations and even making some friends. One of my best friends now is someone I met at a Proz conference!

Some will remain professional contacts only, but when you meet people who share your interests there's a great chance of really enjoying some conversations and even making some friends. One of my best friends now is someone I met at a Proz conference!
2) Location. The Proz conference organizers do a good job of choosing nice spots and showing us some highlights. I had such a good time at my first Proz conference (Prague) that I've returned to Prague more than once, even spending several weeks and months there at a time. Biarritz will probably win my #1 vote, though, as the French Basque Country may be my favorite place in the world. Beach, mountains, rolling hills, sheep cheese, shiny red peppers drying on white village homes... Definitely worthy of a visit!
3) Networking. I've heard it repeated over and over, but it's really true. I recently earned over $2,000 on a job I got through a person I met at a Proz event. And I myself am always happy to meet people with different combinations, so that I too can spread the wealth when someone is looking for a translator.

2) Le lieu. Les organisateurs des conférences Proz font du bon travail quand il s’agit de choisir de beaux endroits et de nous montrer les lieux incontournables. J’ai gardé un si bon souvenir de ma première conférence Proz à Prague que je suis retournée dans cette ville plus d’une fois, y passant même plusieurs semaines ou mois à chaque fois. Pourtant, Biarritz va probablement être ma préférence n°1, le Pays Basque français étant certainement mon endroit favori dans le monde entier. La plage, les montagnes, les collines, le fromage de brebis, les piments luisants séchant sur le mur blanc des maisons… Ça vaut définitivement le détour !
3) Le réseautage. On me l’a répété cent fois, mais c’est vrai. J’ai récemment gagné plus de 2000 $ avec un travail que j’ai eu via une personne rencontrée à un congrès Proz. Et je suis moi-même toujours contente de rencontrer des gens dont les combinaisons de langues sont différentes, afin de pouvoir moi aussi en distribuer la richesse quand quelqu’un recherche un traducteur pour une langue autre que les miennes.
