Thank you both for your comments. The entire clause is:
El cable de remolque de emergencia penderá de la amura y la aleta del buque, en la banda opuesta a la de amarre o donde se vincule la manguera submarina, manteniéndose la gaza próxima a la flotación. Se colocará en las bitas de trabajo del buque de modo que su extremo quede firme dejando la longitud necesaria bien adujada. Se prevendrá la caída accidental del cabo al agua por medio de una retenida que se corte al tirar desde el remolque.
What should I call the gaza then? Eye splice? And this part of the rope stays close to the waterline?

gaza gaza is not usually bight: seno refers to the curve of the rope itself. Gaza is usually an eyesplice or some kind of spliced or whipped loop. It also can refer to the loop made by knotting a rope. Any more context?
