This may be too far-fetched, but bear with me: The author seems to be playing with the idiom "quien siembra vientos, cosechará tempestades"; I'm suggesting to do something similar with a different idiom, "the devil makes work for idle hands to do," since the old revolutionary counterposes seeking freedom by working the land with your hands against doing it through political speech.
So I would say something like: "Freedom through words! Where are you leading us, you fools? Freedom is born and nourished on free land nursed by hands; it perishes and vanishes when words make work for idle hands to do."
