I think dubbed movies or series are a torture for the ears, so I will never willingly expose myself to it.
On the other hand this feature might be interesting if you don't understand the language at all and you would like to have an idea of what is being said. But I don't tend to watch non-subtitled YouTube videos in a language that I don't understand.
May I ask why is Proz.com contributing so actively to the hype around AI?

Well, let us give it a chance!
I haven't tried it yet but I'm proud that we linguists took part in creating this tool! It will help so many people around the world... and it will save us lots of hours for doing more interesting and creative tasks

Seriously? Are you a dubbing artist who actually would like to do "more interesting and creative tasks"?

Not an appealing quality | Dec 24, 2024 |
All these AI hype features aren't appealing to me in terms of quality.
Regarding YouTube, I already had to try the so-called AI subtitles for research, and it was a torture.
Transcription was so awful that subtitles made no sense at all, so the result was that watching the video without the AI feature was miles more enjoyable.
Then is the issue about voices and sound quality, which is usually like hearing a tin assembly line robot using a vocoder.

Every time I read/hear about any “new” AI feature advertised like it will blow my mind, I can't help but think in the 2024 word of the year > Brain rot.
It seems to me that all these AI features aim to make more people brain rot.
The more these AI features are forced into the industry, the more it seems the Matrix is eating human brains. ▲ Collapse

I have not, but I saw one of those annoying ads (that you can’t skip without YT Premium) using AI dubs or voice-over. They are so funny and distorted that you can’t focus on the actual content/message conveyed, but keep laughing at that terrible articulation.
What’s going on with ProZ Polls, like last 10 polls are all about irrelevant AI features?

How is it at Bosnia? Here in Macedonia every Turkish tv show is dubbed, I mean completely, you can't hear the Turkish dialogues, and honestly I'm not a big fan, because I keep hearing the same voices in every Turkish show, from the Macedonian actors, ofc. But we also have Turkish TV channels with the original audio and subtitles.

Aren't art works also protected regarding the dialogues/spoken parts?
