Fairly stable Dec 25, 2024

For two years now, my best months of the year have been July and August. That's when I receive big projects that have been left in the drawer and that the client decides to send to me before they go on holiday.

A marked slowdown Dec 25, 2024

I was let go of my full-time in-house translator job last June, so I opened myself to both freelance and in-house opportunities, local and remote. I was let go of my full-time in-house translator job last June, so I opened myself to both freelance and in-house opportunities, local and remote. A strong showing of opportunities in June, July and August started to taper off sharply at the end of the summer and it's now more like a weak assemblage of opportunities in a flat state.

I was interviewed and called in to work as a full-time freelancer for an educational publishing entity but a deeper analysis of their deadline and pay conditions popped that balloon in mid summer. Fortunately for me, I secured a good in-house position at the end of autumn. But the freelance options for my pair (EnglishSpanish) are pretty bleak.

I surmise that the slowdown and flat outlook are not directly due to generative AI but to a cascading effect of the hype it created.

A little slower compared to the rest of the year. Dec 26, 2024

July was really good, august and september were a little slower. Just like last year the 3rd quarter will be the least good quarter this year, although it was better than in 2023.
